There’s tragedy ahead in Emmerdale as someone experiences a significant health event that leaves them fighting for their life.
Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) is the local who is set to be battling for survival, and it’s highly likely caused by the stress of knowing of Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) crimes.
Laurel learned the truth about Jai’s torture and extradition of Amit Sharma (Anil Goutam) and put pressure on him to come clean.
She’s apoplectic at his behaviour, particularly the treatment of innocent Suni Sharma (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana), who Jai ensured was cut out of the business.
But now it’s crunch time for Jai and he admits to Laurel he can’t face telling Suni. Jai is shocked to learn it is not an option for Laurel and the future of their relationship, and it leads to a vicious argument between them, resulting in Jai insulting Ashley.
Incandescent with rage, Laurel makes him leave. But that could end up being a grave mistake as once alone, Laurel starts to feel severely unwell. As dizziness overwhelms her, she collapses.
With no idea what’s happening to her body, she’s terrified as she realises she can barely move, is struggling for breath, and cannot reach her phone.
This comes as Emmerdale fans beg for less ‘misery’ in the soap’s storylines, with the tragic twist coming alongside Tom’s ongoing abuse of Belle, and not long after the sudden death of Ethan, the PTSD agony of Charity, the diagnosis of Dawn and Billy’s baby Evan with leukaemia and Bob’s grief at the loss of his teen son earlier this year.
As precious time ticks on, Laurel is discovered barely breathing by Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), who immediately calls an ambulance for her step-mum.
Jai takes Suni to one side, preparing himself to drop the bombshell on his brother, but as he’s about to make the admission, he’s interrupted by Gabby’s unrelenting phone calls.
The disruptions make him see red and rudely accept the call, but as he listens to the urgency in Gabby’s voice, the colour drains from his face to hear his wife has collapsed and is in a very bad way.
