Emmerdale actor Emma Atkins has stated her belief that Cain and Moira Dingle will make it through the rough patch in their marriage.
The couple hit the rocks due to the stress of Matty Barton’s prison ordeal, following Samson’s false allegations over the recent stabbing incident at The Hide. Cain feels like Moira has been going too far, while she feels like he isn’t backing her up like she did for him previously.
Emma, who plays Charity Dingle in the ITV soap, spoke to Digital Spy and other outlets about where Charity and Cain – who have quite the rocky history themselves – stand at the moment, and shared her opinions about Cain and Moira.
“I guess I do love the old school Cain and Charity. But as we all know, time moves on, and I do love the Moira and Cain chemistry,” she said.
“I do think it’s brilliant, because they’re so different that they work as a yin-yang. Whereas I think with Charity and Cain there would probably be too much friction, because they’re from a similar stock. Whereas Moira has that sort of morally upstanding nature.
“I wouldn’t want to change their dynamic, but I’d love to work with Jeff Hordley and Natalie Robb. She’s amazing. In fact, my mum said to me the other day ‘Isn’t she a brilliant actress?'”
When it comes to her own character’s current standing with Cain, Emma said that they were on “an even keel” at the moment.
“It’s quite good, it’s quite comfortable, it’s quite steady, it’s quite functional, which is very unheard of for Charity,” she said.
“I think that’s allowed us all to just have a bit of a breather, because we’ve been blessed with two years of awesome, consistent stories and stuff. So, I think we’re just doing our own thing. I think Mack is doing a lot with Aaron and stuff. So it’s been good to do some Dingle stuff.”
