Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) starts to pick up on some concerning signs regarding Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) relationship with Tom King (James Chase) in Emmerdale soon.
In a storyline that began last year, Belle has found herself in a horrible position being physically and mentally abused by husband Tom.
Recently, Belle opened up to her mental health nurse about Tom and after they chatted, the reality of her situation started to hit home.
Rachel, the nurse, encouraged Belle to take a break from the village and visit her dad Zak in Scotland. Things took another dramatic turn, however, due to Tom ending up in hospital after being electrocuted in a barn.
Coming up, Belle starts to panic as Charity, Chas (Lucy Pargeter), Mandy (Lisa Riley) and Lydia (Karen Blick) begin to pick for information on her relationship with Tom.
As the new spoiler video shows, the Dingle’s girls night is interrupted when Belle gets a call from Tom, checking up on her.
When Charity hangs up the phone, Belle is horrified, as Charity begs her to open up.
Charity is left incredulous as Tom shuts down her pursuit of Belle and insists his wife is struggling with her mental health.
In the week, Tom ups the stakes even more in his plot to get Belle away from the village and her family. He attends an interview for a job in a remote part of Wales and says Belle would be delighted to move there
‘There’s a moment after Tom calls her that Charity says she thinks Belle wants to open up but doesn’t know how to and she says, “It’s me, you can say anything.” Then she sees Tom in the background. That was the pivotal moment, the only moment that she had and Belle chooses to go the opposite way and withdraw even further’, Emma Atkins explained.
‘From that moment on belle shuts Charity out as well as Tom. They see each other in the street a couple of days later and Charity says “I’m not going to interfere but please know I am here for you.” Because at the end of the day Belle is an adult. Charity can’t be controlling and say “You will open up to me.” You’ve got to respect your friends and your family. If they won’t open up you can’t push it. So she says “I am the safe space if you choose it to be me, because I’ve been there.” I think Belle’s already closed the shutters, really, which is really sad.
‘People will be really frustrated by that, in a good way, because it shows you how this stuff goes on every day in people’s domestic lives and they’re living that hell.’
