Emmerdale has announced a new producer, following Kate Brooks moving to Coronation Street.
Sophie Roper has been announced as the soap’s new Producer to join Laura Shaw, having worked on the ITV soap as story producer since July 2016.
In her previous role, she was involved in the creation of some major storylines, such as Maya Stepney’s grooming plot, Meena Jutla’s murder spree, and Charity Dingle’s heartbreaking flashbacking episode, to name just a few.
“As a lifelong soap fan, I feel privileged to be part of such an iconic and well-loved programme and I’m thrilled to be taking the show forward as producer, alongside an incredibly talented and dedicated team,” Sophie said.
“Emmerdale truly is a special place both on and off-screen and as we embark on this next chapter, I look forward to bringing more bold and ground-breaking drama to the Dales.”Iain MacLeod, ITV’s executive producer for continuing drama, added: “Sophie is a real talent and has a natural eye for a big, bold story so she is the perfect person to maintain Emmerdale’s tradition of challenging, exciting narratives.
“I am thrilled that she has made the well-deserved step up into her new role and with her as a more senior part of the very talented team in Leeds, viewers will be in for an engrossing, exhilarating and emotional ride.”
When it was announced that Kate Brooks was moving to Corrie, MacLeod said: “Kate is a fantastic storyteller and I know under her guidance the show will be ambitious, exciting and full of heart and humour. She is Corrie to the core and such a good fit for the show.”
