Soap fans are convinced that something fishy went down with Ruby Milligan’s mum’s death in Emmerdale, but they’re scratching their heads over who the real culprit is.

In a dramatic plot twist this week, viewers met Helen Fox (played by Sharon Maughan), estranged mother to Ruby (Beth Cordingly). After years of radio silence following a fall-out over Ruby’s choice of husband, Caleb (Will Ash), Helen found herself wanting to patch things up.

The drama kicked off when Caleb paid a sneaky visit to Helen in the hospital after she’d been blowing up his phone with calls. She dropped the bombshell that she was on her last legs and wanted to make amends with her daughter.

Caleb smelt cash and struck a deal: he’d bring Ruby along for a cosy reunion for a cool £100k. Helen gave him the nod before doing one, but there was heartbreak in store during Wednesday’s episode (September 18).

Ruby rocked up at the hospital ready for a tearful reunion but got the gut-wrenching news that Helen had clocked out just 20 minutes earlier, reports Leeds Live.

Staggering into her late mum’s room, Ruby was greeted by the grim sight of Helen’s body, while Caleb lurked, creeping on an emotional Ruby as she spoke to her mum for the last time.

But now the gossip mill’s in overdrive, with soap aficionados sure someone’s played a deadly game with Helen. The finger’s pointing at Caleb, but some eagle-eyed fans reckon Ruby herself could be the dark horse.
