Gemma Oaten, who played Rachel Breckle in Emmerdale, almost went on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. But they changed their mind and dropped her from the show. Why? The soap star has been fighting against eating disorders and knows all about it because she fought anorexia and bulimia herself. Her parents started a charity called SEED – support and empathy for people with Eating Disorders – and Gemma is their biggest cheerleader. She works super hard to raise money.

 

 

 

 

 

Emmerdale actress previously shared why her parents, Marg and Dennis Oaten, started SEED. She emphasised the importance of early intervention in eating disorders, as due to the lack of early intervention, she nearly lost her life. However, her parents never gave up on her.

Gemma highlighted her journey from struggling with an eating disorder to pursuing her dreams as an actress, presenter, and public speaker. She also mentioned her role as a patron and manager of SEED. The Emmerdale former revealed she missed out on an opportunity to appear on I’m A Celebrity. She explained that all candidates had to undergo psychological evaluations during the process. After an interview with a psychiatrist, the show expressed concerns that participating in the show might trigger a relapse into anorexia for her.

Disagreeing with this assessment, the actress felt discriminated against and believed she could have excelled in the jungle. But now, after eight years, the conversation around mental health has evolved. However, Oaten confessed, “But yeah, I was quite burned by that.”
