Emmerdale’s Moira and Cain Dingle to hit the rocks in Matty storyline

Emmerdale airs major trouble for Moira and Cain Dingle’s marriage next week. The couple hit the rocks as the stress of Matty Barton’s prison ordeal takes a major toll.

This week’s episodes see Matty sent to jail on remand following Samson’s false allegations over the recent stabbing incident at The Hide.

Moira finds it difficult to see her son struggling so much in prison, so she takes matters into her own hands by trying to scare Samson.

In tense scenes, Moria spots Samson and his troublesome friend Josh drinking together at The Woolpack. She follows Samson to the pub toilets, full of dark intent.

Later, Cain tries to warn Moira that she’s in danger of messing up Matty’s case if she keeps trying to intimidate Samson on his behalf.

Moira refuses to listen to Cain’s advice and issues some harsh words towards her shocked husband.

Moira regrets her angry behaviour the next day, but Cain seems nowhere close to forgiving her as he reminds her of what she said.

A drunken Cain later returns home to Butler’s Farm and the situation completely spirals out of control.

Moira is left shaken over the ongoing crisis, with her marriage and her life left in tatters.

Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira, explained: “This puts Moira and Cain’s marriage under strain. Cain thinks that Moira is going too far, but he mainly thinks she’s making the situation worse.

“Moira feels that Cain isn’t doing enough to back her up, like she did when he went to prison for Kyle. Moira was there for Kyle, she looked after him and stuck by Cain, but she doesn’t feel like she’s getting the same support in return.

“That’s where the cracks start to show and the problems start to appear – you can hardly blame Moira.”

On Moira and Cain’s big showdown, she added: “It’s a very powerful scene. Jeff Hordley plays a very good drunk!

“Cain is drunk and Moira just doesn’t have the time for him. She tries to goad him and push him to show some sort of reaction to what’s going on – to make him angry, to provoke him to try and do something and back her up.

“It ends with them coming face-to-face and Cain nearly hits her. It’s a bit of a face-off between them both. It’s a very uncomfortable moment. People who’ve seen the scene said they felt very uncomfortable.”

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Wednesday, June 19.
