Emmerdale and EastEnders will not be airing this evening as both ITV and BBC One dedicate their slots to Wimbledon and the Euro 2024 coverage.

Viewers of the popular programmes, which both air at 7.30pm on their respective channels, have been on tenterhooks in recent weeks as the TV landscape has been considerably shaken up by the 17th

edition of the UEFA European Championship. But the agitation around the London-based drama and its ITV rival is set to continue as fans will have to go without their fix this Tuesday, July 2.

While Emmerdale has been scrapped in favour of the live Euro 2024 coverage, and Romania’s match against Turkey at 8pm, the Beeb has cancelled EastEnders in favour of Wimbledon 2024, set to begin on BBC One at 7.45pm. Thankfully for regular viewers of both dramas, Wednesday 3 July will offer more positive news with a double bill of EastEnders from 7pm to 8pm on BBC Two, one of which is already available on BBC iPlayer.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street will also be back at their regular times of 7.30pm and 8pm. On Monday, July 1, the BBC had already scrapped EastEnders from the air as the broadcaster focused its attention on the launch of the 137th Championship at Wimbledon, while ITV aired Corrie and Emmerdale at a much later time.

Viewers of the Manchester-based show were notably sent into an online frenzy when they weren’t able to tune into their favourite show until 9pm – while another drama-packed instalment of Love Island was aired over on ITV2 – after Emmerdale was aired at 8pm. More changes have been lined-up for the rest of the week to keep fans in the loop of the comings and goings in Weatherfield, the Dales and Walford. On Thursday, July 4, EastEnders fans will be treated to a double bill from 7pm to 8pm on BBC Two.

Emmerdale will also air for its usual hour-long instalment from 7.30pm to 8pm. Unfortunately, Friday, July 5, will come with another blow to fans as the Yorksire-based show and Corrie will not air as football continues to dominate the schedules. This comes as Emmerdale tackles the difficult and insidious issue of coercive control through a heart-breaking storyline involving Belle Dingle and her new husband Tom King.

Meanwhile, the cobbles are desperate to know what really happened to Lauren Bolton as Joel Deering’s reign of terror continues. Over in Albert Square, Billy Mitchell had the shock of his life when he discovered he had a secret family.

Other TV staples were impacted by the long-awaited sporting event as BBC’s Repair Shop and Casualty were both cancelled from their usual slots, with the medical drama halted in the midst of its Storm Damage mini-series. But the changes will only be temporary as the Euro 2024 tournament is set to end on July 14.
