Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano has warned there’s “more to come” for his character Matty Barton.
Matty is currently on remand in prison accused of stabbing Samson Dingle, and trying desperately to keep his status as a trans man secret from the other inmates. With his family campaigning desperately to get him out, Matty has been too scared to shower or leave his cell.
Now, though, he’s set to get a cellmate, Les, with his mum Moira learning the news from Cain. Divulging more on the latest storylines, Ash appeared on ITV daytime show This Morning to discuss what’s coming up.
“Matty’s cellmate confronts him and says, ‘Look, I know something’s up with you. The other guys here are questioning you, you’re being too quiet, you’re not quite right’. So he has to say… this guy wants to help him, and he has to say, ‘Okay, this is who I am’.
“He’s got this cellmate who’s kind of defended him. He’s a bit of a rough diamond, he’s a good guy who’s ended up in there and he wants to look after Matty. He needs to know the truth. But once it’s out there’s other characters in there that aren’t as understanding.”
Ash went on to say: “Matty’s incredibly vulnerable, and let’s face it, being inside and having an extra added target on your back is of course going to cause a threat. There’s lots to come and as I said it’s been so exciting to do.”
However, Ash has also revealed that Matty could be in further danger, telling press: “Amy reveals to Robbo, who is a very nasty transphobic horrible guy that Matty’s trans. It’s the worst possible thing that could have happened to Matty he just thought he was on the cusp of getting a hold of it and surviving and he was going to be all right and now he’s been outed by his wife, which is unbelievable.
